Research description

Dr. Ferreri’s research is centered around the study of cerebral activity in physiological condition, neurodegenerative and epileptic diseases through the application of electrophysiological techniques. Dr. Ferreri’s has a long-lasting expertise in clinical neurophysiology of the motor system and of cognitive functions, with a translational approach towards determining better rehabilitation approaches for stroke and dementia.

In the experimental neurophysiological laboratory of the Neuroscience Department Dr Ferreri focuses on multimodal combining of advanced electrophysiological (e.g., HdEEG, EMG, nTMS) and neuroimaging (e.g., MRI, fMRI, DTI) methods for the identification of novel biomarkers towards the early and non-invasive diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. In recent years, Prof. Ferreri’s commitment has been focused on the development of tailored Noninvasive Brain Stimulation (NiBS) approaches to promote brain physiological excitability, connectivity and plasticity to support the higher cerebral functions. Through basic neurobiologic insights from animal studies and modeling approaches, this research has the final goal of improving brain healthy aging and developing therapeutic approaches for patients with neurological conditions.
