Research description

My main interest in the gastroenterology field include  the neurogastroenterology (motility and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract) and immune-mediated diseases (inflammatory bowel diseases and eosinophilic disorders of the gastro-intestinal tract), considering both the translational and clinical aspects. Moreover, in the last years, we have developed a strong interest on the role of microbiome in different conditions and aspects of the life, by collecting and funding a group of collaborators who work in synergy to explore the value of microbiome assessment in terms of pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of various disorders, including the neurological and inflammatory ones. We also started in Padua one of the first center for microbiota transplantation in Italy, which already treated patients with Clostrioides difficle infection, tranplanation and autism. I have published extensively (h-index 51, published papers n=435) on gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), esophageal motility disorders, Barrett’s Esophagus, functional GI disorders (functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome), eosinophilic esophagitis, microbiome and inflammatory bowel diseases.
